Election 2016 – Candiate Interviews

Adam I, Editor

ADAMSVILLE, Primoria – Tomorrow Adammia will go to the polls for the 2016 National Election, electing our Prime Minister for the 2016-17 term. This year is set to be a rematch of last year’s election, with Moderate leader Emperor Mother Jayne Belcher aiming to win a fourth consecutive term, challenged by Labour candidate Sir Paul McKenna, who happens to be the Emperor Mother’s partner. The Liberal Party still has no members who are eligible to run (although next year Prince Jake will be old enough) and furthermore no independent candidates have nominated themselves. As with every National Election since the very first back in August 2013, the Adammic Express has interviewed the candidates, which are published below.

Interview with Her Imperial Highness Emperor Mother Jayne Belcher PM COA, Councilor for Maternia (MODERATE)

What are your thoughts on the state of Adammia over the past year?
I think Adammia has functioned well over the last year, despite a disruption to council meetings brought about by the passing of a much loved and respected citizen. Foundation Day did not go ahead, naturally, though plans are afoot for a belated celebration.

Where do you hope to see Adammia going over the coming year?
I think Adammia should continue as it has done.

If you could change one thing in Adammia what would it be?
If I were to change something, it would be to increase the price of home made wine to 10p a bottle.

What is your opinion on public finances? Should Adammia be spending more or saving more? If the former, what should money be spent on, and if the latter, what should money be cut from?
Perhaps we should invest in a new flag [or] have a orator stand made for the use of Emperor’s addresses. This could be made by [Sir Reginald Hall] or purchased on line. I think this would look impressive during the filming of the Christmas speech.

Any final thoughts?
[None]

Interview with His Grace Sir Paul McKenna KOA, Duke of Maternia (LABOUR)

What are your thoughts on the state of Adammia over the past year?
Since the beginning of 2015 it has been a period of change. There have been increases in territory and also decreases as Adammia continues to be a fluid entity. There has been the creation of political parties, the visit of a micronational tourist and a steady streamlining of procedures making the running of government more professional. The most significant event of the last year was the passing of [Madam] Winifred Hall who was a hugely influential figure within the empire.

Where do you hope to see Adammia going over the coming year?
Becoming ever more professionally run and the revenue raised being used for Adammic celebrations and a belated Foundation Day being recognised in some way after the cancellation in April.

If you could change one thing in Adammia what would it be?
More barbeques and gatherings in informal settings for the citizens.

What is your opinion on public finances? Should Adammia be spending more or saving more? If the former, what should money be spent on, and if the latter, what should money be cut from?
I think the finances are about right as any excesses are spent on the citizens wishes i.e. the above gatherings.

Any final thoughts?
Long live the Empire!

All full citizens of the Empire will be given the chance to vote tomorrow. The main polling station will be in Tytannia, with others in Primoria and Myway. Those who are unable to come to these polling stations will be able to vote via phone, email, Skype or other such means. Administrative divisions will begin declaring results either after midnight or as soon as all their residents have voted, whichever comes first. Midnight is the deadline for votes from non-territorial citizens. All subdivisions should have declared by the end of Sunday the 14th. The overall winner will then be declared and will immediately take office. The Adammic Express will be running a live-updating feed throughout the next two days. Full citizens, remember that it is your civic duty to vote! Seek wisdom and honour, and long live the Empire!
